Waterfall gullies beside residential gardens
Horseshoe Falls is a recognised Hazelbrook-area landmark, described by Destination NSW as a waterfall within a natural amphitheatre. It illustrates the sheltered, damp conditions that can sit close to the village's residential landscape. The wider setting includes forest, gullies and garden edges rather than one single kind of snake habitat.
For homes, damp cover can be created by ordinary things: irrigation, dense plants beside a shed and materials stored on soil. An encounter there does not prove there is a nest or a wider infestation. The priority is to understand where the individual snake was last seen and keep that area quiet.

The research dataset contains 188 snake rehabilitation records assigned to Hazelbrook during July 2011–June 2020. These five recorded names provide local context; counts reflect reported animals, not the number living in the suburb today.
Recording effort, reporting patterns and the type of incident affect these figures. The list is not a complete species inventory or a probability of your next encounter. “Carpet Python” and other names are reproduced as recorded, without assuming a subspecies.
Do not identify a snake by colour alone. Keep your distance from every unknown snake and leave handling to a licensed catcher.

Concealed ground, vegetation edges and moisture are useful things to consider. The places below explain local habitat and property situations; they are not verified current hotspots or directions to find snakes.

Garden sheds beside dense planting
A partly open shed can be difficult to inspect from outside. If you have seen a snake enter, keep the door area clear and describe the entry point to us.
Compost, timber and garden storage
These are useful places to improve organisation before a problem occurs. During an active sighting, leave piles and containers in place for the catcher to assess.

A snake goes behind the shed
Stop moving boxes, pots or bags of garden mix. A rushed clear-out can cause the snake to move again and erase the last reliable location. Keep pets away from the shed perimeter and call from a separate safe area.
Tell us whether the snake went behind the structure, through a doorway or underneath the floor. Describe adjoining cover and whether there is a fence on either side. Modern locating equipment is useful only where the structure and access allow it; it cannot guarantee a view through every surface.

- Keep frequently used shed entrances visible and store materials on organised shelving where suitable.
- Fix leaking taps and unnecessary persistent wet patches without removing natural waterways.
- Manage food scraps and pet feed securely so stored food does not attract rodents.
- Keep a clear separation between your work area and dense garden cover, subject to vegetation protections.
